Turkey burgers are one of our favorites and these spinach feta turkey burgers are the best of the best! Skip the beef burgers tonight–you are going to love these!

Spinach and feta is such a classic combo, but adding sun-dried tomatoes makes these juicy turkey burgers unreal. In fact, we have gone beyond just burgers with this combination.

Try this Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad or this pasta recipe with Italian sausage as well!

Why You Will Love These Spinach Feta Turkey Burgers:

  • They are so simple to prep. Mix up all the ingredients and make them into patties. That is it. That is why burgers are always a great easy dinner idea!
  • The flavor of these spinach feta turkey burgers is AMAZING. Sun-dried tomatoes are the big hit in these turkey burgers. Soaked in olive oil and Italian herbs so they give any recipe instant wow factor.
  • Lots of options for cooking. Grill them, fry them on stove top or even air fry. A cast iron skillet or grill pan are great options for cooking! Lots of options especially if the weather ends up putting a damper on your grill out.
  • These spinach feta turkey burgers are freezer friendly. You can freeze the turkey burger patties before cooking or after. I like to prep a few batches and freeze half of them and cook the rest immediately. Two for dinners prepped in one.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • ground turkey: I prefer my ground turkey about 85% lean versus other leaner options. For the best turkey burgers, don’t go any leaner than 90% as the spinach feta turkey burgers will come out tough and dry. Ground chicken will work for this recipe as well if you have it on hand.
  • spinach: You can use frozen or fresh chopped baby spinach. If using fresh spinach, measure as noted. If using frozen chopped spinach, thaw and wring out excess moisture.
  • feta: feta cheese crumbles or a block will work, I use full fat but the reduced fat can work as well
  • sun-dried tomatoes: use sun-dried tomatoes in oil with Italian herbs in possible. Drain any excess oil before adding into the burger mixture.
  • breadcrumbs: use classic bread crumbs or gluten free if needed
  • herbs and spices: I use a combination of garlic powder, oregano, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper in these turkey burgers. You can omit the crushed red pepper if desired as it will at a touch of spice you may not be interested in. You can also opt for 1-2 minced garlic cloves instead of powder.
  • serving suggestions: your favorite hamburger buns, or brioche buns are great. A whole wheat bun is a good option as well! These would also be great served in warmed pita!
Ground turkey, spinach, seasoning, feta, and other ingredients.

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  • Combine all the ingredients for these spinach feta turkey burgers into a bowl. Stir to combine. I try to get the excess oil off of the sun-dried tomatoes, but if there is a little bit, that is okay. I also have been known to toss in extra feta and tomatoes, just saying. (steps 1 and 2)
  • Form the turkey mixture into 4 equal sized balls and then press and mold them into round patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cook using desired method: grill, stove top, in a grill pan etc over medium heat, preheating before cooking. Make sure the internal temperature is 165°F. (step 3)

Recipe Tips:

  • Use a less lean ground turkey for the best flavor. I typically use 85% lean ground turkey for these spinach and feta turkey burgers. Ground turkey is already a lean meat, so you don’t want to go too lean. Opt for a little higher fat content if possible.
  • Make sure your sun-dried tomatoes are in oil. You can try to let any excess oil drip off, but you will want the kind that comes in a jar.
  • Storing Instructions: You can freeze your turkey burgers before or after cooking. Wrap them individually if storing pre-cooked for easiest handling. Store in a freezer safe airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw before cooking for best results. Cooked burgers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an air tight container.

Tips to Make Sure Your Turkey Burgers Aren’t Dry:

No one wants dry turkey burgers. The add ins of spinach, feta and sun-dried tomatoes already add extra moisture so you are ahead from the beginning. But follow these other tips to make sure they don’t dry out:

  • Leave a bit of the olive oil on the sun-dried tomatoes. A good healthy fat can help keep the moisture in your spinach feta turkey burgers. When removing the excess oil off the tomatoes, be sure not to squeeze them bone dry. A little will go a long way to retain the moisture in your burger.
  • Don’t over work the meat mixture. When mixing all the ingredients, try to work it all gently and just until combined. If the mixture is over mixed, the burgers can also easily fall apart, so handle lightly! This tip is good for all turkey burger recipes!
  • Use a meat thermometer. Instead of cutting into one of the turkey burgers, use an instant-read meat thermometer to check and make sure they are done. Cutting into them can release some of the juices.
  • Remove the patties once internal temperature is reached. Once the turkey burgers hit 165°F, remove them immediately. You don’t want them to cook any longer once they hit the temperature.

Meal Prep:

You can prepare these feta turkey burgers up to 24 hours in advance. Mix all the ingredients together and form the patties. Cover and chill until ready to cook.

You can also freeze the prepared patties and then thaw them before cooking if you need to prepare them more than 24 hours in advance.

Air Fryer Instructions:

Air fryer turkey burgers can be quite juicy and delicious. Cook them in a preheated air fryer at 360°F for about 12-15 minutes or until cooked through and have reached an internal temperature of 165°F.

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix well to combine. (hands work great here, not gonna lie)
  • Form mixture into 4, 1/4 lb. patties. (You are more than welcome to form smaller burgers as well!)
  • For stove top: Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Place burgers in pan and allow to cook approx. 5 minutes per side. Test to make sure they reach 165°F internal temperature.
  • For grill: Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Gently place burgers on grill and heat each side 3-5 minutes. Again, make sure they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Serve as desired and refrigerate leftovers.

Notes

  • Use a less lean ground turkey for the best flavor. I typically use 85% lean ground turkey for these spinach and feta turkey burgers. I find that ground turkey that is too lean comes out dry and tough in turkey burgers.
Store in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw before cooking for best results. Cooked burgers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an air tight container.
