If I happen to post a new recipe every day for the next ten days, I apologize in advance for bombarding your inboxes. Ok, that’s a bit over the top, but I am currently doing everything I can to distract myself essentially every waking moment. And time in the kitchen as well as time on the computer are what’s keeping me busy.
How am I going to make it ten more days?!
I will make this short and sweet because I am so on edge I am not even sure I am thinking straight. I can barely eat, I can barely sleep. I try to breathe, and I try to do everything I can to stay distracted, but the anxiety is one I have never experienced in my life.
In 10 days, our perfect little baby is due. Whether he will be ours forever is completely out of our hands. And that is making me a mess.
The room is ready, the clothes are folded, diapers, wipes, everything we need to get through our first week with him. We dream we hope, and we pray, but we have no firm answers and no guarantees. I thought our years of struggle with fertility was tough, but the feelings I have felt over the past months we have been on the adoption journey have no doubt been the toughest of all.
Right now, all I can ask is for prayers. Prayers that I make it through these next days, prayers for the brave woman who is considering us to be the parents of her angel, and most of all, for little baby S. All I have done to this point is dreamed of our life with him, and I can only hope and pray that we won’t have to know a life without him.
So the perks of needing distractions is that I end up in the kitchen playing a lot. And my friends at Natierra made my day when they sent me a big box of superfood goodness recently. So in my big box of goodness was chia seeds, cacao, hemp seeds, pink sea salt but BEST of all: dark chocolate covered chia seeds and hemp seeds. So right away I thought: smoothie bowl! What a perfect topping for a smoothie bowl! A little bit of crunch is my favorite thing to bring to a smoothie bowl. Gotta have something to chew, right? Otherwise it’d just a be a smoothie.
Hemp seeds boast a number of health benefits, so adding them to your smoothie will give it even more power! So what I essentially do is make a hemp milk in the blender just before the rest of the ingredients are added. It comes out nice and smooth so you don’t have to deal with any pulp. Seriously, ready in minutes and so thick and creamy, but without a mess!

Chocolate Hemp Smoothie Bowl
- 3/4 c water
- 1 1/2 T shelled hemp seeds
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/3 c frozen cauliflower
- 2 T cacao powder
- 1 T shredded coconut unsweetened
- 1 T almond butter
- drizzle of honey or maple optional
- extra hemp seeds dark chocolate covered hemp seeds, cacao nibs, coconut, granola
- In a high speed blender combine hemp and water. Blend on high until smooth and milk like.
- Add all other ingredients for the smoothie and blend until smooth.
- Pour into a bowl and add your favorite toppings and dig in!
