A simple blended coffee drink with all the chocolate and budget friendly–this Homemade Mocha Frappuccino with Sea Salt is the perfect pick me up for any day!
Coffee and chocolate are my latest trend if you haven’t noticed.
I seem to be the type of person who gets on a big kick and rolls with it for a while until I find something else to dabble in.
The other day I was at the coffee shop ordering my usual plain and boring decaf coffee with a bit of cream. I always think it is so funny the way people order at coffee shops these days. If someone is ordering a drip coffee they typically order it with the word “just” as the startup when talking to the barista. “I’ll just have a regular coffee.” This order is certainly not the trendy 2 pump half caff sugar free caramel concoction that so many seem to order. (I spent my time as a barista so my own personal research is valid here for sure!) Coffee is a complex art nowadays.
Sometimes though, I really do crave a little sweet with my coffee.
I do want a mocha-choca-latte with all the whipped cream. But I also don’t feel like spending 5 bucks a pop for that fancy drink. So typically I ‘just’ stick to my tried and true drip coffee.
But for the times when a coffee treat is what you really want, this Homemade Mocha Frappuccino is a budget friendly drink that you can make at home. All you need is a blender and a few other ingredients and you will be slurping this frothy delight up in no time. Need it dairy free? No problem! Decaf drinker like me? That works too! This sucker is made to order!
This is a great base recipe and I have a few other flavor combinations that can easily be made as well using similar measurements. If you want to top it off with some whipped cream, try one of these recipes! So next time you need to wake up and smell the coffee, make it a treat while you are at it!

- 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 2 cups ice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 T unsweetened cacao powder
- 1-2 T 100% pure maple syrup depending on desired sweetness
- 2-3 cranks sea salt
- 1 T chocolate sauce (more for drizzle!)
Combine all ingredients but the ice and stir/whisk well until combined. This works best especially if using hot coffee so it can cool down before putting over ice.
Add mixture and ice to high powered blender or smoothie maker and blend until smooth.
This makes 2 small or 1 large serving.
